Book Description

The contending and shifting of power structures in international politics frequently takes place on the major battlefields of artwork and popular culture. The contributors to this revised collection examine the ways in which the worldwide politics of capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy are expressed by means of creative labor and well-liked cultures and the ways in which these politics may be reworked by means of creative labor and well-liked cultures. They do this by drawing on their experiences within the arts, activist, and academic communities.

The authors foreground an analysis of global hierarchies and transformative empowerment by means of critically engaged cultural tasks and political creativity through the use of their preferred cultures and methodological therapy of art work as materials websites of producing aesthetic information and symbolizing world power. This is accomplished through the authors' use of art work. The Art of Global Power demonstrates how artwork and popular culture tasks, events, and institutions are essential websites for transgressing the material circumstances that produce and maintain unfair global power hierarchies. This is accomplished by centralizing an intersectional analysis of the gendered; racialized; and financial dimensions of the praxis of culture.

This book makes a contribution to the existing body of literature on international relations and popular culture by posing a challenge to the idea that there is a single, homogenizing world popular culture and by engaging with a number of popular cultures that are articulated from different parts of the world and with different worldviews. This book contributes an intersectional analysis of aesthetics as an exemplified process of information production and action that takes place within the global circumstances of capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy to the body of literature on international relations aesthetics. The intersectional analysis of aesthetics is presented in this book. College students, scholars, and practitioners in the field of international relations, as well as those interested in culture, gender, and media study, will find this book to be of interest.
